Following an Adam Webster blunder, Harry Kane gave Spurs the lead with a curled effort from outside the box, and the hosts added a second through an Emerson Royal cross that looped in via a deflection off Solly March.

Albion’s star player Yves Bissouma gave his team hope when he made it 2-1, but Kane nudged home from close range almost instantaneously to ensure the London side’s progression to the fifth round of the contest.

Despite a spirited performance at times, the Seagulls made a number of niggly fouls, and Neal Maupay, among others, missed a number of good chances. And Potter said he had no complaints about Saturday night’s loss at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

He told BBC Sport: “Our performance wasn’t one of our better ones and I thought Tottenham were good.”

“I have no complaints, we just weren’t at our level. You can’t give away three goals and expect to win the game.

“We wanted to go through but we have played a really good opponent with really good players.”

Although Brighton had more possession (57%) and shots on goal (13 vs. 12), they were less comprehensive on the night.
