Emiliano Martinez Makes a Seven-Word Remark Regarding Arsenal After His Weekend Antics. After his antics on Saturday, Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez has now spoken about his time at Arsenal. During Arsenal’s 4-2 victory over Aston  Villa, the 30-year-old shot-stopper played a significant role in many key occasions.

Martinez scored an own goal when Jorginho’s shot bounced off the crossbar and into the back of his head. The former Arsenal man was also cautioned for time-wasting in the second half and came under fire from Unai Emery for his role in Gabriel Martinelli’s goal.

Martinez departed the Gunners for Villa in 2020, therefore it’s safe to conclude that the majority of Arsenal supporters don’t particularly like him. Yet today, looking back on his career, he calls his old team “one of the biggest clubs in England.”

Speaking to Sky Sports, he said: “At one point in your career you think I’m not going to make it or I’m not going to be the keeper I wanted to be, because I always thought I had the talent.

“At a young age I came to one of the biggest clubs in England. To have a successful career and be Argentina number one – that was my goal.”

The Villa player also spoke on attaining his lifetime dream of hoisting the World Cup with Argentina, while claiming he is ‘grateful’ for the career he has experienced thus far.

Martinez spent most of his time in north London as a backup goalkeeper, with the exception of a brief stint with the first team during the 2019-20 season while Bernd Leno was sidelined.

The Argentine has developed into a top shot-stopper since leaving the Emirates Stadium, but Arsenal have a fantastic goalkeeper of their own in Aaron Ramsdale.

It was clearly for the best for all sides when Martinez made the transition to Villa Park, especially after he had battled to establish himself as Arsenal’s number-one goalkeeper.
