Erik ten Hag Claims Manchester United Will Only Consider Elite Players To Replace Cristiano Ronaldo. Erik ten Hag has stated that Manchester United would only search for quality players to replace Cristiano Ronaldo.

Following Cristiano Ronaldo’s departure last month, the Red Devils are currently bereft of options up front. Following his controversial interview with Piers Morgan, Manchester United terminated the Portuguese superstar’s contract in November.

Erik ten Hag has stated that the team is searching for options up front following the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo. However, the Dutchman has also noted that the 20-time English champions will not sign a forward merely for the sake of signing a forward. ten Hag remarked before their Tuesday Premier League against Nottingham Forest.

“We are aware we have lost a striker so need to get one in but it has to be the right one who brings quality into the team, not just adding to the squad. The criteria is high here at Manchester United.” 

He added: “We are aware we need to score more goals, we need to improve on many more elements. We created so many opportunities [against Burnley in the 2-0 Carabao Cup win last week] and have to be more decisive.”

Manchester United currently has the fewest goals scored among the top seven Premier League teams. So far, the Red Devils have only scored 20 goals in 14 games, half the number of goals scored by reigning champions Manchester City. Erik ten Hag has been keeping an eye on Cody Gakpo for quite some time, but the Dutchman has already been signed by Liverpool.
