Former Premier League Referee Slams Mike Arteta For What He Did At Aston Villa This Weekend. Mikel Arteta has come under fire from former Premier League referee Dermot Gallagher for his actions this weekend against Aston Villa. Arteta was seen on video making fun of Simon Hooper for signalling a moving ball and setting the game back.
The video has gone viral on social media, attracting a lot of attention as expected. Of course, Arteta’s hijinks on the sidelines are not new. This season, Richard Keys has been vocal in his criticism of the Arsenal manager.
Meanwhile, speaking on Sky Sports earlier today, veteran referee Gallagher argued that what Arteta did was unwarranted and a terrible advertisement for the game.
“I think if the fourth official had felt it was untoward he’d have drawn it to the referees’ attention and probably a yellow card. But it’s not a good advert, is it? We don’t want to see that,” Gallagher said.
