La Liga President Issues De Jong Warning To Barcelona. Barcelona cannot pressure Frenkie de Jong to quit or accept a pay cut, according to La Liga president Javier Tebas.

Rumours surrounding the 25-year-old midfielder’s future have circulated often. Barcelona is willing to sell despite an alleged €17 million salary dispute. Manchester United have expressed an interest. Negotiations are underway, but De Jong is not expected to join the Premier League team.

“La Liga is going to enforce the legislation. Players cannot be pressured or pushed aside, it is what marks the collective agreement, the law, reason, and ethics,” Tebas said.

Barcelona’s financial difficulties are well known, but they have nonetheless made high-profile signings this summer. The cost to the team of Raphinha, Robert Lewandowski, and perhaps Jules Kounde might be well over €100 million.

In order to earn money, the Catalan giants sold club assets like future TV rights revenue.

“We follow all the movements of Barca very closely, but when the documentation of the levers and reduction of players that they have to do arrives, we will see if they register everyone,” Tebas added on the club’s spending.

They know what they have to do. They still have a little work to do to be able to register everything they have signed and intend to sign. I think for now they are on the right track.”
