Mark Lawrenson Pinpoints Main Advantage Liverpool Have Over Manchester City in Premier League Title Race. As the Reds look to close the gap on the Premier League table-toppers, Liverpool legend Mark Lawrenson has alerted Manchester City that it is easier to chase than to lead.

Pep Guardiola’s team appeared to be on track to defend their league title just a few weeks ago. Last month, the Citizens had a 12-point lead over second-placed Liverpool, but the situation has drastically changed in recent days.

Following their win over Norwich City and City’s loss at home to Tottenham Hotspur, the Reds’ Premier League lead over City has shrunk to six points. Jurgen Klopp’s men have a game in hand and will have the opportunity to close the gap on the reigning champions when they face Leeds United on Wednesday.

Lawrenson has stated that going to lead the title race could be difficult for City due to the players’ mental attitude, which could lead to a slip-up. As a result, the Anfield legend believes the Reds have an advantage over their opponents as they seek a second Premier League title in three years.

“Yes, we (Liverpool) have to beat City away; that is what we all are thinking. But I think the thing is, it is always easier to chase, always, always easier.”

“It is when you are actually leading that it is a difficult thing because you just need one or two to start thinking, ‘oh they might catch us’; those kinds of things and then performances dip. And basically, we just expect Liverpool and City to win every game, do we not?” He said.

Last weekend’s results could be decisive in the Premier League title race this season. The Reds came from behind to beat Norwich City 3-1 at Anfield, while Manchester City was defeated 3-2 by Tottenham Hotspur at the Etihad.

The match between Liverpool and Manchester City is set for April 9 at the Etihad Stadium. While the Reds still have 13 games left in the season, their trip to Manchester could be pivotal in the race for the Premier League title.

Arsenal, Manchester United, and Tottenham Hotspur are among the clubs that the Merseyside club will face this season. Pep Guardiola’s side, on the other hand, has only to face Manchester United among the top six teams in their remaining fixtures.
