Nunez was brought in the second half and nearly scored on a one-on-one only for Ederson to make a brave stop with his face. Julian Alvarez, another debutant, came on in the second half and equalized in the 73rd minute after a VAR review.
A little more than 10 minutes later, Salah scored from the penalty spot after Ruben Dias touched Nunez’s header in the box.
Nunez gave Liverpool the victory in stoppage time with a diving header from close range, much to the delight of the home crowd.
In the dying moments, Haaland missed a wonderful opportunity to score by smashing a rebound from two yards out of the crossbar.
