Rangnick Provides Edinson Cavani Transfer Update Amid Barcelona Link. Manchester United manager Ralph Rangnick has provided an update on Edinson Cavani who has been linked with a move to Barcelona. Cavani has played less this season since Cristiano Ronaldo’s arrival, but a hamstring strain hasn’t helped.
The Uruguayan has just recently come back from injury and has already found a new objective, but that hasn’t prevented Barcelona from being linked with him.
Barca may need another striker to help with their injury problems, which don’t seem to be going away anytime soon. Cavani’s contract at Old Trafford ends at the end of the season, so he might be available at a bargain.
However, it appears like the Uruguayan will still be offered chances to play, with interim United manager Rangnick stating that the experienced striker is still required.
🗣 Rangnick: “I’ve had quite a few conversations in last couple of weeks [with Cavani]. He knows I will definitely not let him go [in January]. He is a highly important player for rest of season. For me it's clear that Edi has to stay.”

“We have had quite a few conversations over the last couple of weeks,” Rangnick has said.
“I told him from the very first day he is a highly important player, he is probably the only one who can play as a striker [with his] back to goal and face to goal.
“And as I said, his professionalism and his work ethic is just amazing. I told him I desperately want him to stay and stay until the end of the season, and he knows that.
“He also knows how highly I rate him and how highly I respect him. That was also the reason why I played him today (Thursday v Burnley) from the beginning, together with Cristiano [Ronaldo].”
Barcelona have targeted the successful signing of Ferran Torres for the January window, and they will need to clear up salary mass before completing another signing. Even if they do, it’s becoming increasingly unlikely that Cavani will be the guy who walks through the Camp Nou main doors.
