Roy Keane Explains Why Diego Simeone Is The Best Candidate To Take Over At Manchester United. Roy Keane, a former Manchester United player, has urged the club to make a summer approach for Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone.
Keane, who guided the Red Devils to nine major titles during his playing career at Old Trafford, has been a vocal critic of the club’s current trajectory.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, a former teammate, was fired as United’s head coach earlier this season, and Ralf Rangnick was brought in as a temporary replacement.
Rangnick is scheduled to move into a football consultative role ahead of the 2022/23 season, thus United will need a permanent manager, and Keane believes Simeone is the best person for the job.
“Maybe Simeone, he’s the right kind of character. He’s having a difficult spell at Atletico and maybe his race is run with them”, he said.
Roy Keane on Diego Simeone 🗣
“If he’s the right manager for Manchester United, go and get him. Pay the money, whatever it takes. Because you pay fortunes for players. He’s done great things. Big character, big personality, doesn’t mess round with players. Go and get Simeone.” pic.twitter.com/YcW1pbqxav

“Simeone, go and get him, he’s a big character. He’s done great things.
“He doesn’t mess around with players. Maybe someone like him coming in could work.
“I don’t think it’s all doom and gloom, there’s still good things going on at United, but they’ve got to get the manager.
“If the manager is not right, then the rest will just fall apart.”
Simeone has had a terrible season in 2021/22, with Los Rojiblancos out of contention to defend their La Liga crown in the near future.
As they push for a Top Four finish, their erratic play has sparked conjecture about Simeone’s next move in the Spanish city.
The Argentinian’s current contract extends until the conclusion of the 2022/23 season, but if United matches his current pay in Madrid, he could be lured by a fresh challenge.
