Suarez Opens Up On How Barcelona Treatment Brought Him & Messi To Tears. Luis Suarez has stated that the way Barcelona treated him and Lionel Messi in the summer of 2020 made them cry.
Suarez was readily available to demands in 2020 after six stellar years at Camp Nou. The previous club board pushed him out, even forcing him to train alone. Meanwhile, Messi sent them a transfer request via burofax.
“I went. I showed up to train, and they sent me to train separately,” Suarez said on Star+ Qatar.
“I suffered a lot and came home and cried because of how they had treated me. It hurt me.
“It was also a message that they wanted to leave Leo alone, separate him. We had nothing to do with it, it was a mess at the club. We had a bad time, and Leo suffered a lot. I had never seen Messi cry like I saw him cry at Barcelona. It hurt him.
“I always had that uncertainty as to why it all happened, but then luckily I was happy at Atletico Madrid.”
Both forwards have since moved on from Barcelona. Suarez is now playing for his childhood club Nacional in Uruguay, two years after leaving Barcelona for Atletico Madrid. Messi left the club as a free agent last year when his contract expired to join Paris Saint-Germain.
Barcelona’s next LaLiga match is at home against Celta Vigo on Sunday.
