“Yes, it’s true” – Former Manchester United Star Confirms He Had Agreed To Join Atletico Madrid. Former Manchester United striker Edinson Cavani has confirmed that he was turned down for a move to Spain while still under contract with Paris Saint-Germain (PSG).
Cavani joined Valencia on a free transfer this summer after his contract at Manchester United expired. During Los Che’s 3-0 victory on Saturday, the Uruguayan international made his team debut under Gennaro Gattuso. The former PSG forward looked good on his Mestalla debut, despite the fact that he failed to score a goal or offer an assist.

The 35-year-old has asserted that had Atletico Madrid been interested in his signature earlier in 2020, he could have moved to Spain.
Cavani was on the verge of joining Diego Simeone’s team during the 2020 winter transfer window and had reached a personal agreement with the club.
Cavani has opened up on his pleasure to finally be able to play in LaLiga.
He said, as quoted by Le10 Sport:
“Yes, it’s true. I could have come another time, but it was not up to me.”
He added: “Atlético could not come to an agreement with PSG, which was my team at the time. But, fortunately, today I am here, in Spain.”
🗣️ @ECavaniOfficial on Mestalla: “It was divine here. I had experienced it from the stands before. The team won, which is the important thing. It is an extra joy to be able to win on the day of my debut”

Following the expiration of his contract at Parc des Princes, Cavani eventually signed a contract with Manchester United in the summer of 2020. Despite his struggles with fitness while at Old Trafford, the Uruguayan still managed to score 19 goals in 59 games and add seven assists.
We’ll have to wait and watch how the 35-year-old former Manchester United and PSG player performs for Valencia as he nears the end of his career.
